Dance Empire Adults with disabilities
“At Fred Kaps’ dance class, held at the Center for Modern Dance Education, adults with special needs come in and get to dance and exercise to top 10 hits. Kaps teaches modern dance alongside his assistant, Amanda Trott. Trott herself has a disability: She has spina bifida and teaches from a wheelchair.”
“Kaps’ class is just one of many burgeoning non-traditional, alternative therapies available for the special needs community. These avenues not only train body and mind, but offer adults and children a chance to make and keep friends. Socializing can be a difficult skill for the special needs community, particularly for those on the autism spectrum, and opportunities to meet people are often few and far between.”
