Companies and Scholarships
The audition process for companies and talent scholarships consists of simply filling out a short form or giving us a short description of any dance training, related performing arts background, any dance goals or ambitions, any financial need description or documentation, and taking a dance class candidates do not need to prepare anything in advance. Individuals interested in auditioning should call the CMDE office (201-342-2989) or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Scholarships cover the cost of one or more CMDE dance classes per week for the 2018-2019 school year.
Miriam Levinsohn Cole (Mimi) Memorial Talent Scholarship
Mimi was the first professional dancer Shirley hired as a CMDE faculty member in 1962. She taught on and off for many years and served as a Trustee and on the Artistic Advisory Board of the organization.
After her recent passing, Mimi’s sons decided to honor their mother by setting up an annual talent scholarship for a teen or adult for a year of unlimited classes at CMDE.
Edythe T. Carfagno Memorial Scholarship
Carolyn J. Smith established this scholarship in memory of her dear friend Ede, who, along with her son George, introduced Carolyn to the joy of CMDE in Spring 1999.
This scholarship supports 2 students in financial need for 1 weekly class per school year, regardless of age. Please contact the CMDE office for details.
Eva Bauer Scholarship for a Gifted Teen
The Eva Bauer Scholarship is awarded to one gifted teenage dancer with financial needs. Contact our office for more information.
Miriam and Luther Smith Jr. Memorial Scholarship for an Adult or Child
Carolyn J. Smith, a CMDE student, and former CMDE Trustee wishes to honor the memory of her father, Luther. This scholarship is intended to support a child or adult with financial needs and covers two classes per week.
Bruce Baker Scholarship for Boys
This scholarship is given to one boy age 7-14 with dance potential and financial needs. Wear sneakers for this audition. Contact our office for more information.
Cliff Allen New Dancer Scholarship
This scholarship is for a child age 7-14 who has never studied dance before but has potential and is in financial need. Contact the office for more information.
Maya Kyla Memorial Scholarship
The Maya Kyla Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one girl or boy age 7-14 who loves to dance and has financial needs. Contact our office for more information.
Morris Leitman Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a teen who has a disability and financial need. Contact our office for more information.
Earl Ubell Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund helps support partial scholarships and work-study arrangements for people who cannot afford to pay full tuition. People needing partial tuition remission/work-study arrangements due to their financial situation should call 201-342-2989 to apply. Contact our office for more information.
CMDE offers reduced tuition for low-income families and individuals. After trying and selecting a class, students must show proof of income along with a work scholarship application. Students may attend classes while waiting for approval by the board committee. Once accepted, students are expected to give back, in service of some kind to CMDE.
