CMDE Classes Fall 2020

All classes start Sept 19 Unless otherwise noted, most classes are suitable for ages 8- adult including individuals with disabilities. Try one or take them all! Contact info@cmde.org for links Classes are FREE and Donations are appreciated

Monday, 3:30 – 4:10 PM: Hip Hop
Teacher: Kalena Brown

This is an upbeat class that will consist of learning the fundamentals of Hip Hop technique and street style movements. As well as picking up and learning choreography and working on rhythm and musicality. It is a class for all movers and dancers to allow their personalities to shine and to gain confidence. Bring out the inner YOU! (Sneakers suggested)

Monday, 4:30 – 5:10 PM: Lyrical/Poetry
Teacher: Kalena Brown

Students will learn how to express themselves with movement and by telling a story through dance. We will write poetry, words, and feelings down and find music and movement to portray the emotions. You will learn how to be fluid and graceful. Learn how to create your own work of art as well learn choreography and technique.

Lunes, 5:30 – 6:10 PM: Clase de Baile Latino
Profesoras: Allison Brown y Kalena Brown

Ven a vivir un buen momento bailando, poniéndote en forma y divirtiéndote con una fiesta de Baile Latino en tu propia casa con tu familia y amigos.En esta clase aprenderemos diferentes estilos de baile latino y otros estilos de baile como Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Zumba, Jazz Fusion y más. ¡Ven a pasar un buen rato y explorando la estrella que llevas dentro!

Monday, 5:30 – 6:10 PM: Latin Fusion Bilingual Dance class
Teachers: Allison Brown and Kalena Brown

Come experience a good time of dancing, getting fit and having fun with a Latin Dance party in your own home with your family and friends.In this class we will learn different Latin dance styles and other dance styles such as Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Zumba, Jazz Fusion and more. Come have a great time and explore the inner star that you are!

Monday, 6:30 – 7:10 PM: Yoga
Teacher: Kalena Brown

Breath, stretch, balance ,build strength and inner focus with the ancient practice of Yoga-the union of body, mind and spirit. You will feel stronger, healed and relaxed after you leave this class.

Tuesday, 11:30 AM – 12:10 PM: Modern Dancercise (Adults – Seniors)
Teacher: Kalena Brown

A fun class for health and fitness, using a variety of music and dance styles to tone, stretch, strengthen, relax and exhilarate the whole person. All levels and all ages. Suitable for seniors.

Tuesday, 3:30 – 4:10 PM: Creative Kids Dance (Ages 3-7)
Teacher: Candace Hundley-Kamate

A fun class to get kids moving their bodies and activating their imaginations.

Tuesday, 4:30 – 5:50 PM: Dance Inspired Art
Teacher: Candace Hundley-Kamate

Students will explore art projects (collage, mixed media, drawings, paintings, 2D, 3D sculpture) that will connect modern dance techniques to how modern dance is found in art. Famous artists like Matisse, Chagall, Romare Bearden, Aaron Douglass used modern dance as their subjects. Each session will produce a project that reflects where modern dance technique and visual art meet.

Tuesday, 6:30 – 7:10 PM: Modern Dance Making-Choreography and Improv
Teacher: Candace Hundley-Kamate

Students will explore the craft of designing dance, telling stories through dance and what can inspire choreography. A perfect companion class to Dance Inspired Art!

Wednesday, 3:30 – 4:10 PM: Musical Theater/Acting for Dancers
Teacher: Silinea Hillard

This class will teach Broadway style choreography, with a focus on learning song and dance numbers from various musical productions. Students will learn the fundamentals of acting and how to apply the technique to dance.

Wednesday, 4:30 – 5:10 PM: Ballet
Teacher: Silinea Hillard

Students will learn the basics of ballet technique, as well as terminology. Ballet is used as the foundation to most modern day dance styles.

Wednesday, 5:30 – 6:10 PM: Contemporary
Teacher: Silinea Hillard

Expressive dance that combines elements of modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Wednesday, 6:30 – 7:20 PM: Moving Experience Dance Company for adults with disabilities
Teacher: Silinea Hillard and Allison Brown

A creative experience for individuals with disabilities who love to dance and perform.

Thursday, 11:30 AM – 12:10 PM: Modern Dancercise
Teachers: Elissa Machlin-Lockwood and Kalena Brown

Thursday, 3:30 – 4:10 PM: STRIVE for Adults with Disabilities
Teacher: Amanda Trott

A creative movement class that helps to develop expressiveness, range of movement, strength and balance. Each student leaves with a smile!

Thursday, 4:30 – 5:10 PM: African Drumming
Teacher: Yahya Kamate

Practice the art of drumming. If you want to try and don’t have a drum, a bucket will do. Good for the heart and soul.

Thursday, 5:30 – 6:20 PM: African Dance and Music
Teacher: Yahya Kamate

Together, we will hear and stomp our feet through the sounds of our ancestral barrels. Come to dance to the rhythms of West Africa with live music and drum.

Thursday, 6:30 – 7:20 PM: African Dance (Advanced)
Teacher: Yahya Kamate

A faster paced and more complex class of West African Dance.

Saturday, 11:00 – 11:50 AM: Modern Dance (Adults – Seniors)
Teacher: Elissa Machlin-Lockwood, Claire Porter and Linda Mensch

Discover or rediscover the expressive dancer in you! A complete work-out for the body, mind and spirit. This class fosters creative expression while building strength, balance and flexibilty. Small space combinations and improvisations are included in each class.

Saturday, 1:30 – 2:30 PM: Modern Dance for ages 10-20’s with disabilities
Teacher: Amanda Trott and Kalena Brown

A part of CMDE’s “Moving Experience” program, this class is a creative outlet to instill confidence and develop coordination, focus and balance using modern dance and creative movement.

Sunday, 2:00 – 3:00 PM: African Dance and Drum (Toddlers – Seniors)
Teacher: Yahya Kamate

Together, we will hear and stomp our feet through the sounds of our ancestral barrels. Come to dance to the rhythms of West Africa with live music and drum.
