The Freedom Scholarship Fund is pleased to announce on July 15, 2022, a $1,000 donation was made to Center for Modern Dance Education (CMDE) to establish the Park Jimin Scholarship For Modern Dance. The scholarship will afford one male student the opportunity to receive dance instruction at the school free of charge. We believe that Jimin would be so pleased with our decision to establish this scholarship. The Freedom Scholarship Fund was established in September of 2018 in memory of the late singer George Michael. Since that time, its volunteer staff has raised $24,000.00* to provide financial aid for deserving students in the areas of music, art, literacy, suicide prevention, hunger and LGBTQ+ youth safe houses. The Center For Modern Dance Education is saddened to announce the passing of dance artist Hsueh-Tung (HT) Chen on June 12, 2022. Born in Shanghai, China in 1947 and raised in Taiwan, HT later moved to NYC to study and pursue a dance career. He was an accomplished choreographer whose work was a fusion of traditional Chinese and Modern Dance styles, and in 1979 he established the non-profit Chen Dance Center in lower Manhattan. He met his future wife, Dian Dong, while they were both studying at the Juilliard School in NYC in the 1970s. Dian began her own dance career as a scholarship student at the Center for Modern Dance Education, and both she and HT remained connected to…

New World Mini Danceathon

Hello and welcome to our New World. We will be hosting a mini danceathon streamed through Facebook on June 20th at 2:00 PM. We will be showing what our dancers have been working on while in the studio and online. We also have some students that have decided to send in some of their own work.
